Mal Jennings Jazz Ambassadors with Denise Dale – Play the Hits of the Great Trumpet Players

Mal Jennings: Started playing Cornet in the Beaufort brass Band at the age of 12. Moved to Ballarat in 1960 and joined 'The Dixielanders' - a four piece jazz group. Attended the Australian Jazz Convention in 1963 with the 'Eureka Stompers'. Eventually formed the Ballarat Jazz Messengers who became the house band for Ballarat Jazz Club. Judith Durham sang at the Club with the band before Seekers fame.

During the 60's, 'The Ballarat Jazz Messengers' played the nightly theme tune for a local live TV show, and also at a local Coffee Lounge that was owned by Mal, known as 'Gallery 321'. He freelanced with various groups including Frank 'Traynor's Jazz Preachers', Owen Yeatman's Jazz band, and 'Steve Waddell's Chicagoans', and 'Lachie Thomson's Whispering Gold Orchestra'.

He taught music at a Technical College in Ballarat up until he moved to Brisbane in 1980. There he worked with the Mileham Hayes 'Dr Jazz' band, the 'Pacific Jazzmen', and Allan Leake's 'Storyville Jazztet' where he played regularly at Surfer's paradise. He joined the Glenn Miler Tribute Band, while leading his own band - the 'Mal Jennings Jazz Giants'. He also played with the 'Up the river Jazz Band' at the Story Bridge Hotel every Sunday for over 15 years. Moved to Perth in WA in 2008 and formed the 'Mal Jennings Jazz Ambassadors' which plays regularly at the Perth Jazz Club here in Perth.

Denise Dale - Vocals:-
Is a well known singer who has been singing at various Jazz clubs and many other venues for many years. Known as the 'Pocket rocket' - she's very much appreciated and popular where ever she sings.

Bill McCallister - Trombone:-
Is probably the best Trombonist in WA in his field. Teaches at a local Catholic College at all levels of music. Also plays for various live musicals that come to Perth.

Phil Hatton - Reeds:-
A wonderful Reed man who has spent some time in USA playing with various top bands. Phil is now back in Perth and has a full time teaching position at 3 High Schools.

Barry Bruce - Piano:-
Taught for years at the Perth Conservatorium of Music, and is a top Jazz pianist in the style reminiscent of the great Teddy Wilson. Barry is hard to get sometimes as he's often busy with other pursuits. Barry is still the best in his field in Perth, and is a brilliant Jazz pianist.

Tim Woolley - Drums:-
Also a teacher. Tim teaches at various schools in Perth, and plays with various bands in Perth. Tim is a fine player, and really knows how to 'swing' a band!

Murray Wilkins - Bass:-
Murray is also probably the best in his field as both a 'traditional' jazz bass player and also of the more 'modern' idiom. Has also taught for many years at the Perth Conservatorium of Music.

Proudly presented by the City of Perth on Sundays in February and March, enjoy a lazy afternoon of live laid back music performances from local acts at the Northbridge Piazza.

Each week Lablogotheque invites an artist or a band to play in the streets, in a bar, a park, or even in a flat or in an elevator, filming the whole session. What makes the beauty of it is all the little incidents, hesitations, and crazy stuff happening unexpectedly. Their goal is to try and capture instants, film the music just like it happens, without preparation, without tricks.

Anime Film Season - Kiki's Delivery Service
Sun, 2012-02-26 18:30 - Sun, 2012-02-26 20:30

A buoyant children's adventure about a young witch striking out on her own. At her mother's behest, 13-year-old Kiki sets out on a year-long apprenticeship with her black cat in tow. With a shaky command of her broom, she ends up in a charming little coastal town that looks like a cross between the south of France and San Francisco. Unfortunately, the local hotels have a strict "no witches" policy and the police have taken a dim view of her recent aerial mischief-making. She's saved from the street by a kindly baker's wife, who offers her room and board in exchange for her delivering by broom the baker's wares. Soon she befriends a college-aged artist, an old women who fusses over her, and a boy her same age who is nursing a massive crush. All is well until she wakes up one day and realises that she can't make her broom levitate nor can she talk to her cat. What will Kiki do?
